It is Finished

I pray that you will have a meaningful time contemplating the Cross today.  The cross is all about adoption.  The Father adopted us by sending His son to the cross.  And on the cross the adoption for those of us who believe was finished.  We were orphans with zero ability to care for ourselves.  The Father pursued us, found us, adopted us, and saved us.

Galatians 4:4-7

⁴ But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, ⁵ to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. ⁶ Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba,^[a] Father.” ⁷ So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.

When we adopt orphaned children we are doing what God does.  By His grace, He lets us join with Him in rescuing helpless and hurting children who need a Father and a Mother.  There is nothing like adoption to display the gospel to the world.

On October 21, 2010, 7 months after Rebekah came home to our family, we were allowed to finish the adoption at the Thai Embassy in Tokyo. It was the day we got to say, "It is finished.  She's an Oshman.  Thank you Lord."

If you are pursuing adoption, press on.  It's a biblical and high calling and one that is exceedingly hard.  Parenting an adopted child is even harder than the adoption itself.  But the Lord will provide.  Adoption is His heart.  It's what He did for us, on this day, about 2,000 years ago.
